What a crazy weekend!! Seriously I was not expecting to have to spend 80% of it in a doctor’s office with my child!! Ethan is doing much better, praise the Lord, but I have had this sinus infection for what seems like FOREVER!! So I was blowing my nose this morning in my class room and one of my children ran away screaming “there is a monsster in Mrs. Melanie’s nose, someone quick help her and get it out!!”

Frustrated in all the wrong places.

You know how you get when you take on too many tasks all at once? That’s how my life feels at the moment. Between planning a wedding, planning to move (sometime soon), considering a career change (and I use the word career lightly, cause what I do is nota career. Not one that I want for the rest of my life, anyway!), and trying to decipher what it is exactly that God is currently trying to tell me. Seriously, could I not have loaded up my plate with everything all at once? Leaving my job will be one of the hardest things on this list, simply beacuse I love my kids dearly and my administration staff recently bent over backwards to help me out so that I could keep my job. BUT this doesn’t necissarily mean that I agree with some of the ways that things are done here. I hate that I don’t get paid enough for what I do, but why should I be surprised? What teacher in ANY place gets paid what the deserve? Let’s be honest… NONE of them! Well the added stress from the “i don’t get paid enough” part creates a rather uncomfortable pull at the routine that takes place outside of work and in my home. Stress puts a toll on the body, which in turn makes me more stressed and things worse. I really want nothing more that to make the entire world happy with a decently paying job to support my family, a house that ids big enough to hold my family and our stuff, and a positive attitude about the whole thing. But lets be real frind, the chances of that happening are slim to none. I think we struggling with being grateful with what few things we do have. I have a roof over my head, a job that pays, a car to drive, and a healthy family. So this very well could be God’s way of telling me to shut up, stop complaining, stop worrying, and let me lead you where I need you to go. If only I could just take that with a grain of salt!

11 Months till the wedding, and I found my dress!!

After a somewhat overwhelming visit to David’s bridal 2 weeks ago, I made an appointment to visit Bridals by Jodi yesterday morning. I was a little frustrated when I was finding that I liked every dress I was putting on, until we got down to the last 4 I trying on. One dress was called the “Charleston,” which was very fitting for our Charleston themed wedding, one was designed by Jodi herself, and quite frankly way out of price range, and two very similar dress that I’ve been eying from the window of that store (on my way to Moe’s) for a very long time. At the end of the day I had it narrowed down to 2 dress. The decision was crazy! Both dresses were similar in style and price, so I really had it tough. I showed all the pictures of every dress I tried on to my parents and my mom and I went back to Bridals by Jodi this afternoon and I put both dresses on for her, and when the time came I knew which one was my dress. It’s absolutely beautiful, and I can’t wait until my very own dress gets here!!!

Life after Upward Basketball

So ever since January Derek and I have been getting up earlier on saturday mornings to head over to West ashley to watch Grace play upward backetball. It had sort of become rutune for us and we loved going to see her play (it was very comical!). Well, the upward season ended last saturday and so yesterday was the first saturday since we’ve moved in together that we didn’t have to get up to make it to a game. I must admit that I am sad that it is over and we will nologer get to see th jackson 4 every saturday, but at the same time I must say that sleeping in yesterday morning was WONDERFUL!

A Preschool Teacher’s job is NEVER done!

Being a preschool teacher is a wonderfun thing! I absolutly LOVE every single one of my twelve toddlers in my class, but it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get anything done during the day. I swear there is NEVER a day when I don’t bring my preschool work home with me. Those people who say that preschool teachers aren’t real teachers are full of it! We do just as much work, if not more than a quote “real” teacher!

Acoustic Hallelujah

So the other night Derek was at the firestation and I had gone up to see Derek’s Mom and she had Derek’s neice Maisie with her. She had gone to church with Derek’s mom a while back and learnes the song “Hallelujah” so now she wants to sing it all the time. So we’re sitting in the kitchen and Derek’s mom looks at Maisie and starts sing the Beauty and the Baest song and Maisie looks at her and says “no mooma, Hallelujah!” So the entire room busted out in song with “Hallelujah, Hallelujah….” It was absolutly incredible anf beautiful, and it was all because a little 2 year old girl wanted to sing her favorite song! How truely AWEsome is that?!

Surprise Dinner

So Derek is going to be at the station this year for Valentine’s Day and honestly I thought that we were just going to skip out on the holiday this year because of that (and we’re broke), but little did I know he had other ideas up his sleeve. Last year I spent my Valentine’s Day working the night shift at Ruby Tuesday’s in Anderson (btw is you work in the food service… Valentine’s Day is a BAD day to work!!). i was having one of the worst nights of my life and I had cried several times throughout the night. To top all that off I kept getting these text messages from derek with random numbers in them and I had no idea what they ment and it frustrated me. So I finally get off and I go home and crawl in the bed and call Derek just to say a quick goodnight only to find out that he was pulling into my apartment complex. The numbers he had been sending me all night long were milage distances of how far away he was. he drove 236 miles in the middle of the night just to be able to see me on Valentine’s Day! How sweet!! Nothing tops that right, wrong! Last night he was supposed to have football practice and I was going to make bakes potato soup (recipe I got from Tara) for dinner; and I was going to go to my mom’s after work to see her and run some errands before I went home to cook, but Derek had other plans. He sent me a text that day saying that he wasn’t going to practice and that I should come home and we should go out from dinner. I asked him where and he said Genarro’s. Now mind you we only go to Genarro’s to get pizza and we bring it right back home, but he said he wanted to eat there (which we NEVER do) so I knew something was up. he told me to come straight home and shower, but when I got home he told me I wasn’t allowed to leave the bathroom until he said so. So i showered and got ready and he came back to the bedroom to get me and made me cover my eyes as he led me down the hallway to the living room where he had set up this totally romantic dinner caomplete with game hens, roasted red potatoes, green beans, white zinfandel, and a single red rose. It caught me COMPLETLY off guard and was absolutly wonderful. He had cooked all this food himself while I was in the shower and getting ready. How awesome is he?

Weekend Blues

So I usually LOVE it when Derek has Friday and Saturday off and it on duty on Sunday because it gives us the chance to do what we want for the weekend and I can relax on sunday; but thats not the case this weekend. We did have a VERY busy weekend with babysitting friday and upward games, lunch, and parties on saturday. Life has just been a little rough here lately, and it makes for things to be very awkward at home. I love Derek, I do. I love him with everything i’ve got and i’m willing to do any and everything for him. It’s just been rough at home lately. There is a lot of tension around, or at least I feel like there is a lot of tension, and I really don’t think that either of us know how to deal with it. money is tight, thats all there is to it. We’re not married, we’re not engaged we’re just together, in love, and serious, so it just tough to have to be dating and have these problems already. I’m sure he doesn’t keep up with this blog, but I hope that he does just cause it’s hard to talk to him about this; and when I try we usually end up fighting or arguing and i hate it! I’m more than willing to accept advice from those of you who have been though something like this. I love him and i’m not willing to loose him for anything.

I have to admit it’s been quite the eventfull evening! There is nothing better than watching some Steeler football at Derek’s mom’s house…except when the Steelers are playing in the superbowl!! For those of you who don’t know…. PITTSBURGH STEELERS WON SUPERBOWL XLIII!! They are the only NFL team to have 6 wins under their belt!! I’m so excited and I loved every minute of this, well most of it. Before the game Derek and I said we were gonna do touchdown kisses tonight, well he never came to get his touchdown kiss I had to go get them frm him. And when the steelers won in what might have been the most stressful 2 minutes of my life, he high fived and hugged everyone but me. I guess girls really aren’t supposed to like football, but I do. Hopefully I’ll get some affection in upcoming games! Way to go Steelers!! You’ve made me very PROUD to be a Pittsburgh Steelers fan!!
